In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

I have never read anything by J.R. Ward before, and I wanted to start reading this series as I had heard this was going to be made into a show of some sort.
Wow, I was a bit impressed with this. My only complaint with this book was that I didn't understand some of the terms and their meanings. I also wanted some back story on why the vampires and the lesser were fighting. I felt that was a good backstory that we could have been told, maybe later on in the other books, it will be mentioned.
Beth thought she was normal until Wrath came into her life. It seems that she is a half-blood, and Wrath is going to help her through the transition. It is the least he can do as her father was his friend. The heat between these does get a bit hot, and you just know they have to end up as mates.
I liked the twist we got with Wrath, as I didn't even think of that.
Between the transition, the romance, and the fighting, it makes for one good story.
The brotherhood reminds me of a hot motorcycle gang, and I am all here for it I just hope to get their stories as well.

J.R. Ward is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of numerous novels, including the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. She lives in the South her family.
