Sublime service, made to order.

The Flesh an international, multi-billion-dollar black market that trades in lost souls. Or more specifically, their bodies.

Highly organized and frighteningly efficient, the Flesh Cartel could teach even the KGB a thing or two about breaking a human mind. Fortunately for their ultra-rich clients, they’re just as skilled at putting people back together again—as perfect pets, well-trained and eager to please.

No matter what your secret tastes or dark desires, the Flesh Cartel—for the right price, of course—will hand-design the plaything of your dreams.

What the heck did I read? I was looking for books via Libby, and this popped up. I was like alright let me have a looking poo, the title sorta pulled me in. NO, NO, NO just NO! I started this sucker at 11:00 at night and it took me about an hour to read I feel traumatized. I can normally read stories like this, and it doesn't bother me, but this time I just was like, please let it not get any more gruesome. As soon as I thought that, something else would pop up.
Now, story-wise, I felt there could have been a story there, but it was all about sex and tearing folks down and up. We sorta get a glimpse at the sex trade and how people are used and sold. It broke my heart, but at times it felt way too gruesome and I do like some dark shit in the end. I would love to know if they ever get free, but I am not sure I can endure all this again. Like this is one book I think will stick in my head for years to come, just because of the rawness and realness of it.
I do want to know why they kidnapped the brother who was taking a shower. Was it because the cage-fighting brother owed someone money or something? I felt that the authors could have maybe done a bit of backstory with this, unless later on in the series we get told. Though I am not diving back into this series again.

Heidi Belleau was born and raised in small town New Brunswick, graduated with a degree in history from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, and now lives outside of Edmonton, Alberta, with her tradesman husband and two kids. A proud bisexual woman, her writing reflects everything she loves: diverse casts of queer characters, a sense of history and place, equal parts witty and filthy dialogue, the occasional mythological twist, and most of all, love—in all its weird and wonderful forms. She is the author of the REAR ENTRANCE VIDEO series, and the co-author of THE BURNT TOAST B&B. Her latest novel DEAD RINGER, co-authored with Sam Schooler, is out now from Riptide Publishing. Her work has been reviewed in PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY, LIBRARY JOURNAL, and BOOKLIST.
