Tommen's cheekiest lad, Gerard 'Gibsie' Gibson, has always been a comedian, but most people don't see what lurks beneath the surface. He is haunted by events of the past and he uses humor to cope, hiding his true self from the world.
Claire Biggs, the epitome of sunshine, has always loved Gibsie, her brother's friend and her favorite neighbor. She has always seen a side to him that no one else seems to notice. She becomes determined to tame her wild-at-heart childhood best friend.
When lines are crossed, it becomes unclear whether Gibsie and Claire's friendship will survive. Will it blossom into something more, or will they lose themselves in the wild?
One of my students asked me if I wanted to read this series and of course, I was like sure. I don't mind reading what my students are reading as it gives me an idea of the books they would like to possibly see in a library. Now, this is one I wouldn't put in our library as it is a bit of scenes that could upset folks.
Why in the hell did this book even go this route!!! I literally was almost done and then thrown in a freaking shock I about balled for Gibsie. It was truly sad that Gibsie had to shoulder his trauma by himself. His mom is a douche and I was already over her and her nonsense. I never once thought that the way he acted was him deflecting so much and trying to be the best friend and joker to all. I truly do love the banter that all of the characters have with each other and at times I found myself laughing with how Claire and Gibsie interacted. I have fallen in love with this whole series and the characters. I am hoping we get a book with Lizzie because I feel she is truly a character who is just as damaged as the rest of them. I didn't like how at first no one was standing up to Lizzie, because I mean all she did was give grief to Gibsie, but in the end, we see just why she treated him the way she did. It was totally uncalled for but you can tell she was angry and I do think there is more than meets the eye with her.
Now, this book is supposed to be about Gibsie and Claire, but I do feel like it focused a lot more on him which I could understand why the author did it that way.
