Brielle Harper was the perfect woman.
Gorgeous. Talented. Sensual.
And my stepsister.
I had loved Brielle Harper since I was a little boy. I was her protector. Both her parents and mine divorced within months of each other and suddenly--her mom and my dad were engaged. She tormented me my every waking moment. I was too infatuated to care.
A tragedy sent her into my arms for just one night. She taught me about love and I helped her to forget in those few hours. The next morning, she was gone. I was left cleaning up the mess we’d made. My future was in shambles while she was a rising star.
For five years, she was gone from my life-- a famous pop star who was burned out from living too fast for too long. She wanted back into my life, AND my heart.
Even though she was my evil stepsister, I had always loved her. I always would. I just didn’t know if I could bank on forever with someone I couldn’t trust to stay.

I received this book to give an honest review.
I have been hearing a lot about books that deal with stepbrothers and at first I was like say what? I didn't understand the hype. That is until I received this book, then I knew what everyone was talking about. I feel like I am behind on the times of what readers like lol. But any who on to the review.

Brielle and Carter have been friends since they were little and in a sandbox. Carter has always liked her and even approached her one time to ask her out which she turned him down. How sad right? Because then she ends up dating some other guy. We read as Brielle goes through life goading Carter along and like a lost little puppy he follows her. We see as Brielle slowly self destructs and it seems like Carter the good guy is always there for her if and when she needs him even though it breaks his heart. I so wished that Carter would just find someone else but Brielle is always on his mind.
Brielle is one of those girl characters you want to feel sorry for but at the same time you wanna cut the bitch for hurting such a good guy that any woman would love to be with.
As time progresses Brielle's mother and Carter's dad end up marrying and hence this is how they become step-related. Even though the parents are married that doesn't stop Brielle from torturing poor Carter.
Then tragedy hits the family and Brielle runs off leaving Carter to clean up the mess. Carter's life is no longer how he expected it to be and he becomes in charge. We watch as Carter grows up and becomes a man but Brielle is never too far from his mind. And of course we all know what happens next the girl comes right back into his life and they go back through the up and down and all around. Btu with her being back will they even be together or will Carter be left by himself?

I have to say this was a great book and I enjoyed it. Now the whole step-related thing kind of threw me off a bit but I had to keep telling myself THEY ARE NOT RELATED!!! Would I read more yes. Being as this is from Carter's P.O.V. I want to read Brielle's version and see if maybe just maybe she can redeem herself from being the character I didn't like.

Scarlett Jade is just a small town girl with big dreams who loves to write. She has always been found from a young age with her brow furrowed, scribbling words on paper or her nose in a book. Now that she is grown, life isn't much different, she still scribbles words, but mostly on the computer, and her nose is permanently glued to e-books! She is married to the man of her dreams, her real life knight in shining armor and Prince Charming and has one son who is the apple of her eye. You can typically find her playing in the dirt with her son, toying with her indoor vegetable garden, or snuggled on the couch with her dog Peanut Butter and cat Jelly, reading a good book. She loves chocolate, thinks coffee should be a religion, and loves to make people laugh with her quirky sense of humor. She is bold, brazen, and even been told she's ballsy, but she doesn't mind, she takes it in stride. She has a huge passion for all things paranormal and spicy love stories that leave you turning the pages and dying to slide between the sheets of the next book!

 Snippet from Evil Stepsister

I refused to drive the car she bought me. It sat in the corner of the lot, mocking me every single day. I went back to my old beater and drove it around proudly.
“Carter, you need to stop this,” Dad tried to reason with me again, for probably the millionth time.
“Dad, I swear to God. Stop.” I pointed my wrench at him as I crawled out from under the car I was working on. “This is the only solace I get. The only fucking thing in my life that’s making sense. You’re not going to harass me while I work. I will quit.”
“You can’t quit. It’s Father and Son Auto. You’re stuck with me. You’re the one that took me back, so now you get to listen to me give you life advice. You’re fucking up. Royally. You’re letting the best thing that ever happened to your sorry ass go.” Dad sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I can quit. Keep pushing me!” I yelled back petulantly.

“You’re just as stubborn as your mother!”
“Leave that bitch out of it. She has kept herself out of it just fine for the last eight years or so.” “Carter, that’s not true. She and I talk often. You just won’t talk to her.”
“I’ve got nothing to say.”
He sighed and turned back to the car he was working on. “You’re making a big mistake.”
“Am I, Dad? Am I really? You don’t know what it was like for me when she left the first time…or when she left again after telling me she was staying for good. Then to see her collapse over this cockamamie dream of hers…and now she wants to jump back in the deep end? I’m fucking tired of saving her. I am tired of being her savior. I’m pretty sure even Jesus would throw his hands up on this one.”
“Whoaaaa…” Dad shook his head. “Cockamamie dream? You do know the kid’s seriously talented, right?”
“Of course I do. God damn. Of course! But talent only takes you so far, and she doesn’t need the stress and exhaustion.”
“Soooo…you acting like a dick is keeping her calm? Why aren’t you supporting her? Oh, that’s right, because you’re scared. You’re scared to give up any of the control. So you withdraw.”
“Look, Dr. Phil, back off.”
“No, Carter, you back off. You’re wrong on this one.”
“I don’t have any of the control in this relationship. She’s always been the one pulling the strings. Always!”
“You’re completely overreacting. She’s just making some music. Her and Kirby are working hard, and they sent out a demo to a couple small labels. She’s excited. She’s happy. Music makes her happy. She’s not asking you to save her. But you can’t let her be happy because God forbid everything isn’t about you. God forbid she’s not there every waking moment to fulfill your needs. Grow up, Carter. Love is a two way street. It can’t be you driving, all the time. You have to trust her. Trust that she loves you enough to stay. Let her run free, but also let her know she’s got a home to come to. Or keep pushing her away and lose the best thing you’ll ever have.” He threw down his wrench and walked to the door. “I’m done for the day. I can’t stand to look at you.”
