My name is Sheryl Ilene Newcomb. And yes, my initials are S.I.N. A funny little piece of whimsical humor my parents found amusing when I arrived.

Then, it turned out to be true. Looking back with wiser eyes now, my family and I concluded that the events leading up to my transformation started the summer I turned nine. But the day we realized there was a problem, and no turning back, was a week before I started my senior year at Junction City High. The day the fangs and claws appeared and the monster inside of me emerged.

When mutilated corpses appeared near a pile of brush down by Caney Creek, everything changed. Because evil woke up and growled, its ominous rumblings heard by every living thing in Locasia County, Mississippi.

I received this ARC to give an honest review.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I have become more impressed with her writing style.
With Growl we follow the life of Sheryl a young girl who lives in Mississippi. She is a normal person that is until her Nana is murdered, and that is when the true story of it all happens. Sheryl learns about both evil and good that is within her life, she learns about heartache more than anyone should and she also learns more about herself and her family than before.
I really enjoyed the Native American folklore that was written within this story, I am not sure what it is but it is just amazing to read about.
There is magic happening in the backwoods of Mississippi and it is up the guardian and eventually Sheryl to stop the creature responsible for the deaths.
The characters were well developed and I thought Sheryl had an amazing family overall. They were there for each other in their time of need.
There are plenty of twist and turns in this book that you will want to keep reading to find out is this creature can be stopped before more lives are lost. I think the author did a great job with details and making everything seem real.

I have always been an avid reader of the classics: Beowulf, The Iliad, and anything written by the master, William Shakespeare. In the past few years, I became a huge fan of James Patterson, Stephen King and Robin Cook.
However....
My favorite book of all was, and always will be, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. The revenge on all those who hurt and betrayed Edmond Dantes and the incredible roller coaster ride his journey takes you on has always intrigued me. My love for this book is what sparked my desire to write my debut novel in my Eviscerating the Snake series, "Accountable to None." With a modern setting to the tale, I wanted to delve into just what lengths a person was willing to go to as they attempted to seek justice on their own for heinous acts perpetrated on them. The second novel in the series, "Zero Balance" (still in draft!) will focus on the cost and reciprocal cycle that obtaining revenge has on the seeker. For once the cycle starts, where does it end?
