Blurb/Synopsis:

Heralds are the most powerful of all angels, secretive and feared, created for a single purpose. Only those most courageous and worthy earn a place within the elite choir, and only by breaking ancient oaths held sacred can the honor be stripped. It's a punishment that hasn't been imposed in over two-thousand years, until a single reckless act sets off a firestorm, threatening to consume all creation.

Rise Hawke never suspected she'd been marked to play a role in the deadly events unfolding in the spiritual realm. Independent and resistant to authority, she isn't thrilled when she meets Dominik, an angel with new wings, an old grudge, and a mysterious agenda he's determined to impose.

Vowing to uncover the secrets kept from her, Rise soon learns that knowing what you are isn't nearly as dangerous as discovering why. Hunted by those who want to destroy her, and controlled by those who would see her fulfill her purpose, she is forced into a brutal battle set in motion long before she was ever born. It soon becomes clear that what one angel will risk to earn the title of Herald, is matched only by what another will do to keep it.

Dawn Jayne is an Urban and Paranormal Fantasy author from Indianapolis, Indiana USA.

Dawn was an avid reader from a young age, and her desire to write took hold soon thereafter. She loaded up on creative writing classes in school, and posted short stories online to hone her skills - and to make certain she had the thick skin necessary to survive the world of publication!

Uprising is Dawn's first novel, but one that has been in her head for most of her life in one form or another. No matter what job she held - from being a Marine to a mother to a veterinary receptionist - she was always hearing voices and spinning tales in her head. Uprising is a blend of fantasy, spirituality, ancient arts and astrology, all woven together while keeping a foundation in the real world.

Her manuscript was accepted by Time and Tide Publishing in 2012, the first in what will be a three book series. She hopes her story will be a positive contribution to the wonderful Urban Fantasy genre, and wants nothing more than her words to bring enjoyment to readers.

Dawn lives with her family on the Southside of Indianapolis.

I received this book to give an honest review for a book blog tour.
I was really torn with this book, I was going to give it a three star rating, then I went to five stars then I decided no I will go with a 4.5 star rating.
The first part of the book I was a bit confused on the whole angel/heralds thing. Maybe it was just me as I did not see anyone else have this problem.
I would have liked the author to have made just a chapter or heck even 10 pages worth of information on the angels and their jobs and who exactly they work for to the heralds and their job.
It seemed to me that everyone worked for Lucifer who is also known as the "Light Bringer"? Which totally threw me off course. You have different colored angels who are to "guide" and I use that term lightly humans. But minions who I believe? work for Lucifer or maybe they work for themselves I have no clue, try to destroy angels so they can become free. It sounds very confusing and I am sure others found it easy to understand all of that but I was truly at a lost. Hopefully the author can give me more information on the whole thing.
Other than that it was a great book to read, I was engaged in Rise's story when it came to her. What her father put her through wow! I would have left a long time ago. Rise has a destiny that she has no clue about. Dominick is a new angel who has gotten his wings, and he is to guide Rise in her destiny. He really can not give her clues as to what she really is as she needs to learn this all on her own. Well, while she is learning she has a target on her head from the minions. They want to capture her and have her surrender.
Rise goes through some fights, learns a bit about who she is. I love how she doesn't like to take sh** from Dominick and mouths off to him every time she can. The girl has got spunk and will make a great Herald one day. What happens in the beginning you get the understanding of it later on in the book, which I kept wondering okay what does this first part have to do with much of anything with Rise. But I got my answer I just had to be patient.
I do want to read more in this series as I can see it becoming a great read.
