Lyla is in a bit of a rut. Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she’s pretty sure they won’t extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren’t going great. When the opportunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, The Perfect Couple, she decides to try out with him. A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla find herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, boating through the Indian Ocean towards Ever After Island, where the two of them will compete against four other couples—Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi, and Conor and Zana—in order to win a cash prize.

But not long after they arrive on the deserted island, things start to go wrong. After the first challenge leaves everyone rattled and angry, an overnight storm takes matters from bad to worse. Cut off from the mainland by miles of ocean, deprived of their phones, and unable to contact the crew that brought them there, the group must band together for survival. As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla finds that this game show is all too real—and the stakes are life or death.

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
This one did start off slow for me. It was one that I just had a difficult time getting through until about 65 percent in and then I was invested and wanted more. When we first start off it just felt bland and that it was all about Lyla and her feelings and relationship.
Five couples are living on an island and will be part of a reality show. It almost had a Big Brother TV show feel to it in a way. You could be eliminated, and if so, you might find out your significant other might match up to someone else. The first game is played, and then everything goes down the drain. A storm overtakes the island, and it will be a fight for survival as well as trying to figure out who is trying to kill them. I loved how the females on the island never gave up, even when they were tired and thirsty. I think I would have been done for the first time if I couldn't get enough drinking water. I did enjoy how we find out how everyone is connected and why they are there, that is one thing I didn't even think of happening. Overall, the mystery surrounding why they were picked to be on the island really brought people together who would have never met in any other way.
