Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself...
And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked—princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems...
Not gonna lie; the only reason I grabbed this book was because of the cover. Now, was it my most favorite book to read? Not really, though I did enjoy the mystery surrounding the deaths of the witches. I wanted Nonna to tell us more about the secrets she was keeping because to be that protective just means you are hiding something.
In the book's first part, we are transported to the 19th century, where our twins are given necklaces meant to protect them from the seven princes of hell, though they never are to put them together.
Fast forward to 10 years later, and the girls are teens/adults, and they still have no clue what their necklaces are about. When death starts occurring, and hearts are being ripped out, it eventually starts hitting close to home. Emilia is on the hunt and wants answers, even if that means doing a bit of dark magic to get it.
Wrath, I was expecting him to be a bit more war-like. He really wasn't, and I just found that odd. As a character, Emilia wasn't bad; she just kept putting herself in danger when she knew something terrible could happen. Like, girl, try and get answers before walking into a trap, lol.
I did have a question, and it may be considered a spoiler, but how did Pride turn into Wrath? Or did I totally miss something significant?
Would I read book two? I think it isn't one that I will rush and read, but I would like to see what Emilia will be doing now that she is in hell.

Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a semi-haunted house outside NYC where her fascination with gothic settings began. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food with her family and friends, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life’s finer points with her cats.

She is the #1 NYT and USA Today bestselling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series and the forthcoming Kingdom of the Wicked.
