THEN
She was fifteen, her mother's golden girl. She had her whole life ahead of her. And then, in the blink of an eye, Ellie was gone.

NOW
It’s been ten years since Ellie disappeared, but Laurel has never given up hope of finding her daughter.

And then one day a charming and charismatic stranger called Floyd walks into a café and sweeps Laurel off her feet.

Before too long she’s staying the night at this house and being introduced to his nine year old daughter.

Poppy is precocious and pretty - and meeting her completely takes Laurel's breath away.

Because Poppy is the spitting image of Ellie when she was that age. And now all those unanswered questions that have haunted Laurel come flooding back.

What happened to Ellie? Where did she go?

Who still has secrets to hide?

This book was on a bookshelf in our breakroom at school, and I have been dying to read it. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the storyline. I wanted to know what happened to Ellie. I mean, how do you just up and disappear? I understood how Laurel felt in a way, being as I am a mother myself. I assume it is hard to live day to day and do your normal stuff, especially when you have other children and one of yours goes missing, and you have no answers. It is hard, and Laurel has really never grieved or gotten over her child, her golden child, so to speak, Ellie going missing. It just goes to show that not everyone that enters your household is good. We see how a child going missing tears up a family and how nothing is ever the same in the end. We go back and forth, being the present and the past, and once we learn what exactly happened, my mouth was left open.  As the story unfolds, we see that Laurel is finally finding herself being happy with a man she happens to meet name Floyd. You can tell she is happy enough that she is willing to close the gap between herself and Hannah, her other daughter, who has not gotten all her mother's attention. Along with accepting why her husband Paul left. When introduced to Poppy Floyd's daughter, she is amazed at how closely Poppy resembles Ellie. When it all comes around, you will probably be just going, OMG, what? How? I know I was. It was a great feeling to know that it went a totally different way as we got closer to the end than what I was expecting. I plan on reading more by this author as I hope she can keep up the suspense in her other books.
