For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.

Thank you Mrs. Suits for the recommendation. What did I just read? Once I started this book I could not/would not put it down. It captured me, like the beauty that Kya had. Once you start reading you want more.
Kya is who they consider Marsh Girl because with her family she lives in the marsh. Her life is not easy at all. Everyone she loves dearly has abandoned her, except the herons and wildlife. They stay around. As she learns to live on her own and figure things out we see her grow into an amazing woman. One who will experience heartbreak not only once but twice in her life. My heart broke for her and then cheered her on as she grew. One of the many things I loved about Kya is that she did not let her hardships define her. She was not bitter! The way the author describes the scenes, the characters, what is felt it just all comes along beautifully. At the big reveal at the end, literally, left me with my mouth agape just going are you serious? Why did I not put the pieces together? Pick this book up! Read it, devour it you will not be disappointed! I think this is one of my top ten reads for the year!
