They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you've ever seen.
And They won't stop chasing you...until you are dead.
Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.
After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.
Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

So this was my weekend read, I picked it up from my local library not only did the title call to me but the synopsis. I wasn't sure where this book was going to go as I wasn't sure what "Them" were exactly. Are they zombies, vampires, aliens or just plain crazy people. So this is what called out to me to grab this book and give it ago.
I have to say it blew me away. This is a perfect read for teens on up to read I think the way the world was created, to the characters, scenes, feelings, actions all worked very well together.
I kept asking myself would we ever be told who the Them's are and how they came to take over the world and I got my answer towards the end. It was something that I didn't think to even go with but it was awesome.
Amy is living a normal teenage life or well one that you would think is normal. Her mom has a top secret type job and her father enjoys the solar panels and organic food. Which all comes in handy later on within the story. As we have the Before and we have the After which is all explained by Amy.
One day Amy's life is thrown for a whirlwind, the Them's are here and killing everyone and everything. Amy is on her own to survive and when she sees a toddler on one of her scavenging hunts she takes her with her and has named her Baby. Now I have to say the name Baby kept driving me crazy but hey it works in the story and I can roll with it.
Baby and Amy learn to survive together so when they are comprised by someone they take in it hurts Amy. She knows she can not trust folks and this is one of the many reasons why.
Then in comes Amy seeing Them being captured and it intrigues her until Baby and her are captured.
This opens up everything to the answers we start wanting. It seems there is a place called New Hope that has survivors people that can live without the Them's going after them. At first it seems like it would be a good place to live but is it really? We all know how these places seem on the outside but something sinister is going on in the inside.
We go into parts with this book and in part two we are four months later in New Hope. We are also seeing what has happened to Amy and we go back and forth between where she is now to what caused her to be in the Ward.
I have to say this was a really good book to read and I did not want to put it down. I want more of this world and Amy. My library doesn't have book two so I have to wait for them to order it, so hopefully it gets here fast enough so I can dive into it soon.
