My review for City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)

Synopsis:

Donna McCormick is a smart, pretty college student whose twenty-first birthday is a week away. Unfortunately, so is her murder - unless the mysterious man from the darkness can reach her first.

Donna is pursued in her dreams by a man who claims to be her Eternal Partner. During her waking hours, she’s cornered by another who claims to be the same. There’s only one problem: neither is entirely honest.

Or, for that matter, entirely human.

Eight years earlier, Donna’s life was dealt a terrible blow with the untimely death of a little brother who was left in her care. Ever since, Donna has yearned to get a normal life back – and despite her best friend Mo’s efforts to the contrary, Donna has almost managed it…at least until the Underworld cracks wide open, scattering chaos and spilling out every shifty force under the moon. Most of them want Donna dead, but some will stop at nothing to keep her alive.

Too bad she doesn’t know which is which.

With death following Donna like a shadow, she turns to her best friend for help. But instead of help, Mo offers only more mystery. And she knows more about the Underworld than she's willing to admit.

Now, Donna must choose: Cling to the mortal world where she feels safe, or embrace the Underworld where her dreams – and nightmares – come true.

One thing’s for sure - doing either one might get her killed in both

My review:
I gave this book 5 stars though I was going to give it 4 1/2 at first. It took me a while to actually get into the book. It was just very slow starting. But once I got into it I was wanting to see what would happen next.

I do believe there maybe a 5th novel coming out hopefully since the ending has me wondering oh lordly what is going on now. How are The Clave, Clary, Jace and everyone else going to deal with this.

City of Fallen Angels  is part of the series The Mortal Instruments, this is book 4 in that series.
In the previous books, Clary was just finding out she is a shadowhunter, she falls in love with Jace who they all thought was her brother. Come to find out he was not. Clary and the other shadowhunters, Isabella, Alec, Simon who is human but was turned. All fought together in a huge war agaisnt Clary's father who she never knew Valentine. Pretty much the good side won the battle.

Now in City of Fallen Angels, everything seems fine but then Jace starts dreaming horrible dreams and starts keeping a distance from Clary who he is dating. Clary's mother is getting ready to marry Luke who is a downworlder and her mother is shadow-hunter. While all this is going on, people are on the hunt for Simon since he is a day walker. He has the mark of Cain that was put on him by Clary in the previous book. Simon has is own relationship issues going on, and Maia has someone who has came back in her life that she was not expecting.  Everything is put together in a chain of events that you may see coming or you may not. A demon is wanting to bring someone back to make the stakes equal. I would suggest you read the other books first so you can know who the characters are, so you are not easily confused.
