It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: the call that comes in the middle of the night.

When Kat Jenkins awakens to the police on her doorstep, her greatest fear is realized. Her nine-year-old son, Ethan, is missing—vanished from the cabin where he’d been on an overnight field trip with his class. Shocked and distraught, Kat rushes to the campground where he was last seen. But she’s too late; the authorities have returned from their search empty-handed after losing Ethan’s trail in the mountain forest.

Another mother from the school, Stef Huntington, seems like she has it all: money, prominence in the community, a popular son and a loving husband. She hardly knows Kat, except for the vicious gossip that swirls around Kat’s traumatic past. But as the police investigation unfolds, Ethan’s disappearance will have earth-shattering consequences in Stef’s own life—and the paths of these two mothers are about to cross in ways no one could have anticipated.

Racing against the clock, their desperate search for answers begins—one where the greatest danger could lie behind the everyday smiles of those they trust the most.

This was a good book to grab on the prime reading list. What do you do when your child goes missing? Well, one mother stops at nothing to get her child back, yet little does she know there is more to the story than meets the eye. I really enjoyed how the police used technology to find out the answers they needed. That is something that, honestly, I probably would not have thought about. Yet, I guess because we are now more into technology, a lot can be done. I can not imagine how Kat must feel when she lets her child go to an overnight camp with his class. Her son is already dealing with bullying rather than having him out of her sight; I can imagine the feelings that run through her. Then to top it off, he goes missing? Why? He is just a normal boy, right, or is there something more behind it. The way she handled herself, I would have done the same thing. She wants answers. As the story unfolds, we get another mother who plays a part well more like her family plays a part. Once everything started coming together, it ended up making sense. I do have a question for the author, would the police let the mother stay on the crime scene while there? Wouldn't it be contaminated? Also, if someone from the top is involved, wouldn't the FBI take over the case? I may be wrong, but I felt that the author may need to do more research. Just the reason for a star dropped.
