Summer Hart, a sexy, redheaded cougar, finds herself in the middle of everyone’s lives. On the outside it appears that she has the perfect life inside of her large, picturesque home. She had always thought that, together with her husband, they were the ultimate power couple, her being a lawyer and him being a doctor. Their honor roll daughter topped the picture-perfect image they created.

Her life is perfect, until she meets Cole Walker that is.

Cole Walker is a sexy, tough-looking, tattooed businessman. He used to think one woman was the way it should be, but after being married for some time he realized he needed more. All that changed when he saw Summer. The way in which he played his life was shattered.

Legal boundaries will be crossed and ultimate sacrifices made as the lives of these three power couples intertwine. Power, love, desire, sex, and ultimate betrayal encircle them all, unraveling a web of deception that may have best been left untouched.

Emily Bowie is from a small town in Western Canada. She went to university for six years, two degrees later she started her ‘big girl’ job. She married her high school sweetheart and they have two amazing children. After having her children she decided to switch up her career and focus more on her writing. This is her second novel.

#PBwkendread Dawn of Hope by Peter Prichard and The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

This weekend I am going to try to tackle two paperbacks if I can. Dawn of Hope which was given to me to review and The 5th Wave which my librarian recommend to me.

24350574"Excuse me, young lady. We have the ambulance on their way, and they want to know what happened to Drew Winston." "He said he was going to rape me," Dawn replied purposefully to the administrative assistant in the high-school office. "I pushed him away and tripped him, and as he fell, he hit his head on the corner of a water fountain, which was not my intent. He's bleeding from his head and is in convulsions." Within twenty-four hours of beginning her senior year at Fair Shore High School as a new student, Dawn Mortenson had chosen to fight the town's acceptance of the bullying and sexual abuse of young women by confronting Drew Winston, the school's All-American quarterback. Following that confrontation, she received multiple death threats, so her mother had to hire a security firm to protect herself and her daughter. That move did not work, as Dawn was kidnapped soon afterwards and ended up in the hospital. When Dawn had been released from the hospital, she had already gained a national reputation, which attracted more people who wanted her dead. She survived the bombing of a building she was visiting, which prompted FBI involvement. She stunned the agent who interviewed her, when in answer to his question about people who would like her killed, she was able to provide evidence of over fifty individuals who had specifically threatened her-including a police officer from her hometown, who had told her that he hoped the next attempt on her life would succeed. Dawn also clashed at times with those who even supported her efforts. A reporter in town had presented himself as someone who wanted to help. In describing why the culture of rape, bullying, and abuse has been tolerated in town, he ended with the statement, "Everybody is seen as winning, male and female alike. It is a great American success story. Fair Shore residents have paid top dollar to join the winning team and are disinclined to raise any questions about the unsavory practices that support its continuation. There is a feeling that 'boys will be boys.'" In response, Dawn exploded, "And you choose to support this? Goddamn you. Goddamn all of you. Let's only hope, Mr. Bruschi, that the success of this 'everybody-wins' model spreads to towns all across America. Let's only hope that, within a few years, tens of thousands of young women can be treated the Fair Shore way and be raped without comment, so that 'boys can be boys.'" As she turned and headed toward the door, Joseph moved quickly to stop her. "Dawn, don't leave." "Go to hell. I thought there was hope with you because of some of the writing you've done. That series you did on the woman who overcame severe automobile injuries and resumed her career as an engineer after everybody said she would never work again was powerful." "She is a remarkably brave young lady." "And there are a lot of them out there, but your silence is ensuring that they will have to fight that much harder to create the stories they were born to tell." Dawn's battle against the status quo lands a number of friends and enemies either in the hospital, in jail, or in an early grave. She uses rock-and-roll through befriending high-school band members who write their own lyrics that challenge the status quo, along with a combination of personal courage and mental toughness, to change the town forever, although at a huge personal cost.

16101128After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Wrap up Winter Respite read-a-thon 2016

I finished the books I wanted to read this week though it wasn't as many books like I had for the Halloween read-a-thon but that is okay. It always seems that towards the beginning of the year I am always super busy then it all dies down a bit only to be super busy come summer time.

The books I chose to read are the following since they are all NetGalley books that are not due to be on my blog until the published date but I did put the reviews on Goodreads which you can check out by just clicking the link.

The Truth by Jeffry W. Johnston Goodreads
Sinking Stones from the Sky Blog
Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea Goodreads
The Doll's House Goodreads

I want to give Michelle the one who host this read-a-thon every year. Her blog is called Seasons of Reading (which is really neat). With her read-a-thon's I have found myself pushing myself to read a bit more than I normally do and for that it helps my TBR pile come down just a little bit more. :)

If you guys want to join in next time just head on over to her blog (you can click the picture below) and you can stay up to date on when the next one will be happening.

Author Spotlight & GIVEAWAY: Stacey Rourke

Meet Stacey Rourke! She is an award winning, best-selling author, yet her quirky writing style and personality has her better known for her irrational fear of garden gnomes and her insistence that pretty shoes actually call out to her as she shops.
