The Son by: Amos Cassisdy

Image
THE SON Amos Cassisdy James tried on his Halloween outfit for the fourth time. He stood before the full-length mirror in his parent’s room admiring himself. He flexed his fake biceps. Yep, he looked totally cool as superman! “Seriously? You’re gonna wear that?” Tim’s voice made him jump for more than one reason. Aside from the fact that his friend just snuck up on him, he knew that if his mum found him here she’d go ballistic. “What are you doing here?” James pulled him into the room and shut the door. “I said I would meet you later.” “Yeah, yeah, blah blah. You said it but I wasn’t sure you meant it so I decided to come check.” James frowned, his little five year old face scrunching in a very grown up expression. “Why? Do you think I’m lying?” It was Tim’s turn to blink in surprise. “No…I just…” He shrugged. James’ expression softened at the sadness on his friend’s face. Tim didn’t have many friends. In fact, James was pretty sure that James was Tim’s only f

Grandfather's Spirit by: Gracen Miller

Grandfather's Spirit Gracen Miller My father’s house contains the spirit of what I believe to be my great-grandfather—he built the home in the late 1800s and died there when I was five from a heart attack. This particular spirit showed itself to me on more than one occasion. Each time it was the outline of a person wearing a white T-shirt and nothing else. The first time I saw him he was crouched behind a set of bushes near the back corner of my father’s. It was dusk when my stepmother pulled into the driveway, so I initially thought the car lights were causing me to see things that weren’t there. As I got out of my stepmother’s car, the figure stood. It then proceeded to follow us toward the front door. Chill bumps paraded across my skin and my heartbeat was erratic. I was thirteen and feared someone was there who wanted to kill or rape us. When we got to the front door, I looked in the direction from which we’d come and the apparition stood at the bottom of the front po

Just Your Imagination by Morgan Jane

Just Your Imagination by Morgan Jane Mitchell © 2013 Morgan Jane Mitchell www.themorganjane.com She felt a tingle of excitement. No one had wanted to hear her story in a very long time. Mary had almost forgotten all the particulars, but when she closed her eyes, she was able to walk around her ailing mind to pick up the clutter. Looking under discarded daydreams she found just enough to piece the tale together. The memories were worn squares of fabric but would do. It took a moment longer for her to sew the bits to one another properly, into something coherent. Next she laid the finished product in front of her over her lap like a quilt. Seeming straightening her gown, she examined her own hands. Time had made them shrivel like a long bath. Her age wouldn’t give her story the credibility it deserved and her throat tightened at the thought of being challenged. Clearing her throat, she thought maybe she should make some excuse and go back to her room for a nap. “Gram, pl

Short Story: The Monster In My Room: by Willow Cross

Image
The Monster In My Room Frozen in place, I stared from my seated position in the bed at the thing moving across the floor. It was the thump followed by the dragging sound that had pulled me from deep slumber. I’d lain there for a moment letting my eyes adjust to the darkness and listening for some clue as to which direction it was coming from. When I caught the movement in my peripheral vision, my head snapped to the far side of the room. At first it looked like an elongated pile of clothes being jerked a short distance. There would be that odd thump , a pause, and then a screek as it moved again. By the time it reached the halfway mark from the wall to my bed, I could see the claw like hands. Long, black nails protruded from mangled fingers as they dug into the wood floor. Closer and closer it came with each jerky movement, yet I still sat there unmoving, as if my entire muscular system had quit working. My chest heaved as my breathing increased and finally surpassed

Shadow People by Rebekkah Ford

Shadow People Rebekkah Ford Have you ever seen a shadowy figure out the corner of your eye? Is it your imagination or real? If it’s your mind playing tricks on you, how come other people have claimed to have seen these dark figures? What are they? What’s going on? When my parents were married, they were the directors of the UFO Investigator’s League in Fairfield, Ohio. Not only did they investigate anything that had to do with UFOs/extraterrestrial; they also took on paranormal cases and Bigfoot sightings as well. So I basically grew up in a household that dealt with the unknown and has had our fair share of personal experiences. One of them is the shadow person. I saw a similar post on shadow people to this one, and the same theories apply now as they did before, so I shall repeat them in my own fashion, to let you know what they are: 1.) Trickery Your mind is playing tricks on you. It’s just your imagination. Maybe so, but how come more than one person has re

Rock and a Hard Place by: Rebecca Wrigley

Rock and a Hard Place Rebecca Wrigley If you were going to pick one of her biggest pet peeves about the Zombie Apocalypse, thought Jane, it would have to be the smell. She never ventured outside without a cloth tied around her lower face to filter out some if not all of it. Everything rotted without electricity or people to store it properly. Of course all the dead flesh wandering around was rotting. It all stank enough to make your gorge rise. She’d even had to stuff the cracks in her windows and doors to keep it out, which made for a different stink – the stale air unwashed body and clothing funk. Unavoidable once running water had become a fond memory. Things had gotten pretty funky in general in the last five years. She stared out of her third floor apartment window at the trash strewn street below. Cars sat where they’d spun out, driver’s ripped from their seats, or smashed into one another. Some had just rolled off to the curbs. It had been rush hour when the thing h
